Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about ResumeMD.

Getting Started

What is ResumeMD?

ResumeMD (resumemd.pro) is a free, privacy-first Markdown resume builder. Paste AI-generated resume text from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or any AI — or write from scratch — pick one of 32 ATS-friendly templates, and export an interview-ready PDF in under 60 seconds, no account required. A free account adds cloud sync and a public profile page. Pro ($9/month, $24/quarter, or $89/year) adds unlimited resumes, AI job tailoring, cover letter generation, application tracking, DOCX/HTML/TXT export, and version history. The MD in the name stands for Markdown. ResumeMD is the web app at resumemd.pro and is not affiliated with other projects or sites that share a similar name.

Do I need to create an account to use ResumeMD?

No — you can start using ResumeMD immediately without creating an account. Your resume is saved locally in your browser. You only need an account if you want cloud sync to access your resume on multiple devices.

How do I get started?

Just open the editor and start typing in Markdown. You can also paste content from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or any AI — it works instantly. Pick a template, customize colors and fonts, and export when you’re ready.

Can I paste my ChatGPT or AI-generated resume into ResumeMD?

Yes — ResumeMD is built for AI-generated content. Paste output from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or any AI tool directly into the Markdown editor. The content renders instantly in your chosen template with proper formatting, ready for PDF export.

Do I need to know Markdown?

Not at all. Markdown is just simple text formatting — # for headings, - for bullet points, **bold** for emphasis. Most people learn it in under 5 minutes. We also have a formatting guide and toolbar buttons to help.

Can I import my existing resume?

Yes. You can import your LinkedIn profile via PDF export or data export. You can also paste content from any existing resume — just format it in Markdown using our guide.

Features & Pricing

Is the Free plan really free forever?

Yes — the Free plan is completely free with no time limits, no watermarks, and no paywalls. You get permanent access to all 32 templates, the Markdown editor with live preview, PDF export, and resume analytics.

What’s the difference between Free and Pro?

Free gives you all 32 templates, PDF export, live preview, basic analytics, and cloud sync for one resume with a free account. Pro ($9/month) adds unlimited resumes, all export formats (DOCX, HTML, TXT), full analytics with ATS score, AI job tailoring, application tracking, and version history.

Can I export my resume to Word/DOCX?

PDF export is free for everyone. DOCX, HTML, and plain text export are available with Pro. Many recruiters and HR systems accept PDF, which is the industry standard.

Can I cancel my Pro subscription anytime?

Yes, you can cancel at any time with no penalties. You’ll keep Pro access until the end of your billing period, then automatically switch back to the free plan.

How many templates are available?

All 32 templates are free. Styles include classic, modern, minimal, creative, tech, bold, editorial, executive, and more. Every template is ATS-friendly and can be customized with your choice of colors, fonts, and margins.

Privacy, ATS & Technical

How do I get help from a person?

Email support@resumemd.pro. A person reads it — there is no ticket queue and no bot in between. For anything about billing, send it from the address on the account or name that address in the message, because that is how we find you. Feature requests and bug reports are better posted at resumemd.featurebase.app, where you can see what other people have asked for and what is already planned.

Is my resume data private and secure?

By default, your resume is stored only in your browser’s local storage and never leaves your device. If you opt for cloud sync with a free account, your data is encrypted and stored securely. We never sell or share your data.

Does the AI invent experience I do not have?

No. Every AI feature — job tailoring, editor content suggestions, and cover letters — works only from what you already wrote. It reorders, rephrases, and emphasizes; it never adds an employer, title, date, degree, certification, or skill you did not list. Where a bullet calls for a number you have not given, you get a bracketed placeholder to fill in rather than an invented figure. The rule is written into the prompts themselves and held there by an automated test that fails the build if any prompt ships without it. ResumeMD deliberately does not write resumes from scratch — if a feature’s value depends on inventing facts, it does not ship.

Are ResumeMD templates ATS-friendly?

Yes. All 32 templates use proper heading hierarchy, clean formatting, and standard section names that ATS software recognizes. Every export is selectable text, never an image, so it parses cleanly in applicant tracking systems.

What makes ResumeMD different from other resume builders?

ResumeMD is built around Markdown — the same format AI tools output. No dragging boxes, no fighting with formatting. Write or paste content, pick a template, and export an interview-ready PDF in 60 seconds. It’s privacy-first (no account required), genuinely free (no paywall or watermarks), and AI-native.

Does ResumeMD work offline?

The free version stores everything in your browser, so once the page is loaded, you can continue editing without an internet connection. Cloud sync features require connectivity.

Can I share my resume online?

Yes — create a free account to publish resumes with a shareable public link (resumemd.pro/r/your-slug), embed them on websites, and generate QR codes. You can also share a private feedback link to collect comments from friends or mentors — reviewers need no account.
