What separates executive resumes
Lead with scope, not tasks
"$85M P&L" and "150-person org" communicate seniority instantly. Your first bullet should establish the scale you operate at.
Show transformation
"Grew revenue from $20M to $85M" tells a story. Executives are hired to change things — show the before and after.
Board-level communication
Include board presentations, investor relations, M&A involvement, and strategic partnerships. These signal true executive experience.
Keep it to two pages
Executives earn the second page, but no more. Lead with the last 10-15 years. Earlier roles can be summarized in 1-2 lines.
Resume tips for executives
Open with a strategic summary
Not "seasoned professional with 20 years." Instead: "VP of Engineering who scaled engineering from 30 to 150, delivered $85M product line, and led IPO technical readiness."
Quantify everything at scale
Revenue, team size, budget, market share, customer base. "Managed $22M budget" and "Led 150-person org" establish your level immediately.
Show progression
CTO → VP → Director → Manager trajectory tells a story of trust and promotion. List companies and titles prominently.
Include board and stakeholder work
Board presentations, investor relations, analyst briefings, strategic partnerships. These differentiate executives from senior managers.
Mention M&A and transformation
Due diligence, post-acquisition integration, organizational restructuring — these are high-signal executive experiences.
Two pages is acceptable
Unlike entry-level, executive resumes can extend to two pages. But be ruthless: only the last 10-15 years in detail, earlier roles summarized.
