AI Resume Prompts for Education Roles

A K-12 application is screened against a license first — certification area, grade band, endorsements, and the state that issued them — and the rest is read for whether you have taught this subject to these students. Academic hiring wants a different document altogether: a long-form record of courses taught, publications, grants, and service, not a one-page resume. These prompts start from your certification, your actual teaching schedule, and the posting in front of you. Student data stays out of the tool entirely.

Before you paste any of these

  • Lead with certification, grade band, and subjectWrite it the way your state writes it: certified in [state] for [subject], grades [X to X], endorsement in [area], valid through [year]. Postings state the certification they require before they describe the job, and a model asked to guess an endorsement will pick a common one rather than yours.
  • Student information is confidential inside a prompt tooNames, individual scores, IEP contents, and small-cohort results that could identify a child do not go into a chatbot. Describe the group instead: 4 sections of [X] students, [X] percent multilingual learners, a self-contained classroom of [X], a caseload of [X].
  • Name the curriculum, the standards, and the platformPostings name them, so your resume should too — the reading program you were trained in, the math curriculum you piloted, the standards your units were written against, the learning management system you graded in. These are checkable facts about your classroom that no model can supply for you.
  • Faculty and research roles need the long formAsk the model to sort what you paste into sections — courses taught with enrollment, publications, grants with funder and amount, committee and service work — rather than compressing a career onto one page. Compression is what a model applies by default to anything called a resume, and in academic hiring it removes the evidence.
